There are masses of beauty blogs and sites that populate the web and sorting the bad from the good can be tiresome. So I thought I’d help you out in the process; MakeUpTrends is a fab new online magazine by journalist and make-up fundi Louisa Austin.
The best new beauty site targets women aged 18 to 55. Readers will be interested in unbiased reviews of the latest products and daily updates about product launches and goings-on in the industry.
Louisa also writes feature posts tackling serious subjects such as scarring and skin cancer, etc. And for all you budding writers or wannabe story tellers Louisa is open to insight.
The professional, clean design of MakeUpTrends is attractive and sets it apart from the plethora of wordpress blogs that roam cyberspace.
The beauty sections are clearly sub-categorised into Nails, Face, Eyes, Lips and Skin, and the site boasts an editorial format that makes it easy to navigate.
3rd Oct
Our Beauty Blogger of the Month award for October goes to Kelly Peel from Kelanjo.com.
Kelly is a digital marketing expert who so happens to have an interest in beauty and fashion – blogging seems the logical progression. With a love for French films, music and tea (lots of tea), Kelly manages to compensate for her pet peeves; rude people, moths and crumbs in bed.
Read our interview to find out what inspires our lovely blogger’s news and reviews.
1. What do you love about blogging?
The thing I love most about blogging is the friends I have made over the last 3 years. After attending several events I really got to know some lovely people. I regularly meet up with some fellow bloggers – now friends to go shopping and have dinner, and I feel really lucky to have got to meet such wonderful people through my blog.
2. What piece of ‘style literature’ has inspired you the most, and why?
I would have to say it is FashionToast (fashiontoast.com) It’s possibly my favourite fashion blog and absolutely love Rumi’s sense of style, her photography, and her style of writing. I check it almost every day. True fact.
3. Which social media platform do you find the most useful, and why?
Without a doubt this has to be Twitter. If you need to find out who somebody is, contact a company, stalk celebrities, chat with fellow bloggers and friends, Twitter is the place to be.
4. Is online shopping better than actual store contact?

Bianca started her Beauty Blog in 2007, partly out of boredom and partly out of an obsession for beauty products.

What drives Bianca’s fetish for beautiful things? Read our interview to find out…
1. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is being able to cut through all of the marketing available online to give an honest opinion, so that readers can make an informed choice about a product.
2. Do you read glossy mags? If so, which ones and why?
I don’t read glossy magazines much, but when I do I pick up a copy of Easy Living due to its being one of the most sensible! It gives plenty of practical advice that women can use along with a good dose of fun and self-esteem (oh, and they give away free shiny things occasionally). I also like Oh Comely – not really a glossy, but rather a low-profile lifestyle bible that again promotes a sense of quirkiness, thoughtfulness and happiness without the silly vacuous cosmetic surgery articles and celebrity photos.
3. What is your favourite social media platform, and why?
In terms of social media I’m still a Facebook fan through and through; however, I am just getting into Twitter and also dabble with LinkedIn, using both of these latter media for business. I still like Facebook best only because it helps me to keep in touch with old friends.

August’s Beauty Blogger of the Month title is awarded to Caroline, the author of Carolineexo.com.
Caroline is a beauty fanatic who likes makeup, dogs, eating, nail varnish. She is a feisty red-head who is freckly, pale and “a bit of a freak really.”

Carolineexo.com is fun, funky and fabulous and offers some great tips on all things beauty.
Check out our interview with the lovely blogger:
1. What do you like best about running a beauty blog?
I think overall the best thing is the great people I’ve met through writing my blog. I’ve met some truly amazing people who share my interest who I can chuff on about beauty with for hours with. Also, being contacted by people asking for advice is really flattering. I remember I had one email from a reader who said I inspired her to get into makeup which was really lovely. I don’t get it often, but it’s nice when I do!
2. Who is your ‘best dressed’ celeb (and why)?
This is hard! I don’t keep up with celebs etc really! Hmm… okay, I don’t actually have an answer at all. I’m really boring when it comes to fashion. I live in vests, leggings, cardigans, and hoodies, with a nice scarf thrown in there. Sorry
!
3. What are your three top beauty products (and why)?
JUST THREE? uhhh!
1 – MAC Fluidline/Any generic black gel eyeliner – I can’t go out without lining my eyes and this little pot of magic creates a mega black line with ease. Also, if you’re stuck you can double it up as a mascara using an eyeliner brush. Tricky, but I’ve done it a few times!
2 – L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara – THE holy grail of mascaras for me… amazingly voluminous (duh) lashes within a couple of coats. I don’t use anything else at all and nothing compares. I think I’ll do a big cry if it gets discontinued.

1. What inspired you to start a beauty blog?
I believe that beauty secrets are best when shared with others. This is why I wanted to start my blog so that I could share my beauty experiences both good and bad with others. As well as being able to learn more about everything that is beauty related.
2. What is your favourite beauty product (and why)?
My favourite beauty product has to be the one thing that I couldn’t live without and that would be the Roc Retinol Night Cream. It is the only beauty item that helps fix the beauty inconveniences that come with aging, i.e. fine lines, age spots etc… Also, it helps to brighten and even out my complexion, making it more youthful looking and feeling.
3. Who is your fashion icon (and why)?
My fashion icon has to be Jennifer Aniston because I love how she always makes looking gorgeous so easy. I love her cool but sexy “Cali girl” style, including her hair, her makeup and her style, JUST AMAZING. She is the perfect example of less is more and I love how she shows us all that you can be over 40 and still look fabulous!
4. What is your top beauty tip?
